This study aimed to shed light on the linguistic style affecting the communication-discourse in First Episode Schizophrenia (FES) by investigating the analytic thinking index in relation to clinical scores of conceptual and thought disorganisation (Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale, PANSS-P2 and Thought and Language Index, TLI). Using robust Bayesian modeling, we report three major findings: (1) FES subjects showed reduced analytic thinking, exhibiting a less categorical linguistic style than healthy control (HC) subjects (Bayes factor, BF10 > 1000), despite using the same proportion of function and content words as HCs; (2) the lower the analytic thinking score, the higher the symptoms scores of conceptual disorganisation (PANSS-P2, BF = 22.66) and global disorganisation of thinking (TLI, BF10 = 112.73); (3) The linguistic style is a better predictor of conceptual disorganisation than the cognitive measure of processing speed in schizophrenia. These findings provide an objectively detectable linguistic style with a focus on Natural Language Processing Analytics of transcribed speech samples of patients with schizophrenia that requires no clinical judgment. These findings also offer a crucial insight into the primacy of linguistic structural disruption in clinically ascertained disorganized thinking in schizophrenia. Our work contributes to an emerging body of literature on the psychopathology of schizophrenia using a first-order lexeme-level analysis and a hypothesis-driven approach. At a utilitarian level, this has implications for improving educational and social outcomes in patients with schizophrenia.

A écfrase é um procedimento descritivo empregado em textos retóricos e poéticos desde a Antiguidade Clássica, cuja finalidade é trazer o conteúdo descrito diante dos olhos por meio de recursos que tornem a imagem intensamente vivaz. Usualmente, é relacionada a outros procedimentos retóricos que contribuem para produzir o mesmo efeito de visualização, tal como a enargia e a evidência. Para tentar dirimir as dúvidas em relação à definição da écfrase e compreender a associação da écfrase com algumas figuras retóricas, apresenta-se aqui uma breve pesquisa com base em fontes retóricas antigas, tais como Aristóteles, os progymnásmata, Cícero e Quintiliano, e também em estudos recentes a respeito do tema. Alguns exemplos do uso da écfrase em textos antigos são analisados para verificar os recursos que possibilitam a visualização do discurso verbal.

In dialogue with Gaston Bachelard on "felicitous space," Rita Felski on the everyday, and feminist scholarship both celebrating and reviling the domestic, this essay theorizes a mode I call "shelter writing." Shelter writing—going back to Robinson Crusoe and primarily but not exclusively novelistic—lingers over the shaping and keeping of a domestic space. It details the labor of securing and supplying a home, the pleasure of taking a room from mess to thoughtful arrangement, the daily routines of neatening and freshening. But this is no simple romance of the domestic. I am interested in step-by-step descriptions of homemaking made urgent and precious in the wake of traumatic dislocation. Like Crusoe, my "housekeepers" are the survivors of a wrecked domesticity—whether as the result of migration, divorce, poverty, or a stigmatized sexuality. The essay closes by reading an exemplary passage from Stone Butch Blues (1993), in which Leslie Feinberg's butch protagonist, brutalized and exiled from an early age, finds beauty, safety, and sanity in the mundane acts of sanding floors and buying towels.
