Risk factors for obstructive complications after endoscopic correction of vesico-ureteral reflux using polyacrylate polyalcohol copolymer

Abstract: Use of polyacrylate-polyalcohol copolymer (PPC) after endoscopic correction (EC) of vesico-ureteral reflux (VUR) is highly effective but is associated with a higher risk of obstructive complications (OC) compared with other implants. We undertook a STROBE compliant retrospective investigation and studied the OC risk factors to increase the practical safety of PPC. Overall, 798 patients (464 [58.1%] girls and 334 [41.9%]) boys) from 5 hospitals in whom PPC was routinely used were evaluated retrospec… Show more

“…However, the biodegradability of Dx/HA results in a relatively higher long-term VUR recurrence rate (Lee et al, 2009;Alizadeh et al, 2019). The nondegradable bulking agent polyacrylate polyalcohol copolymer (PPC) presents better overall success rate than Dx/HA (Alizadeh et al, 2019), but severe fibrosis at the injection site and an obstructive complication occur at a relatively higher rate (Kim et al, 2017;Sizonov et al, 2020).…”

“…Поиском решения и профилактики этой проблемы занимаются многие детские урологи, о чем говорит большое количество публикаций в ведущих журналах за последние 5 лет. В единичных работах авторы объясняют нарушение уродинамики избыточным количеством объемобразующего вещества или неспособностью дистального отдела мочеточника к адекватному опорожнению [7][8][9].…”
