Objectives: To investigate the predictive value of two novel scores, including the modified rapid emergency medicine score (mREMS) and new trauma score (NTS), in the outcome of hospitalized elderly patients with traffic injuries. Design: Descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study. Setting(s): Tabriz, the capital of East Azerbaijan province, northwestern Iran. Participants: Over 65 years old patients being injured in traffic accidents were included in the current study and divided into three groups. Logistic regression analysis was used to determine the predictive value of mREMS and NTS scores in elderly patients with traffic accidents. Outcome measures: NTS is based on a revision of the revised trauma score (RTS) parameters, which includes replacing the Glasgow coma scale (GCS) score with the GCS code and the number of breaths per minute with blood oxygen saturation (SpO2 ). The mREMS includes age, systolic blood pressure (SBS), heart rate (HR), respiratory rate (RR), SpO2 , and GCS. Results: Totally, 243 elderlies with road traffic injuries were enrolled in this study. The mREMS score in male patients showed a significant difference, and the odds ratio (OR) in these patients was 1.5 (95% confidence interval [CI]=1.15-1.95, P<0.05). Based on the results, the NTS significantly differed in male patients, and the OR in these patients was 0.97 (95% CI=0.95- 0.99, P<0.05). The NTS had similar discrimination to mREMS in the prediction of elderly patients’ severity of trauma (hospitalization or discharge). In cut-off point 7.5, the sensitivity of mREMS and specificity were 71% and 53%, respectively. In cut-off point 216, the sensitivity and specificity of NTS were 84% and 47%, respectively. Conclusions: mREMS and NTS have a moderate degree of predictive usefulness for older patients who have sustained many traumas. It is advised that this problem should be further assessed accurately by a thorough investigation.

Introduction: Traffic accidents are cases of concern both nationally and internationally. Their impact ranges from injuries to death. In Indonesia, traffic accidents are dominated by students who use motorcycles. With this in mind, this study is focused on identifying the driving attitudes that are responsible for traffic accidents among university students. Methods: The cross-sectional survey study was conducted from January 2023 to February 2023, located in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Data was gathered using simple random sampling on 97 students based on experiences while driving such as safety attitude, frequencies on motorcycle inspections, and driving attitude. The next step is a comparison between results based on student experiences and risk assessment by experts. The expert assessment used two personnel of Police Resort from Yogyakarta and Purworejo, Indonesia. Results: Participants were divided into 81.4% men (N=79) and 18.6% women (N=18), with a mean age ± standard deviation of 21 ± 1.8 years. Awareness of safety attributes is demonstrated by the use of helmets by 92.78% of participants, and motorcycle inspections on rearview mirrors (85.57%), rims & tires (79.38%), and brakes (71.13%). In terms of road driving attitudes, students drive with fatigue (82.47%) and sick (61.86%), drive in bad weather (78.35%), and exceed the standard of speed (53.61%). The results of the risk assessment show that 7 variables have a high risk, namely helmet, inspection on the brake, driving in fatigued physical condition, driving in sick physical condition, using gadgets when driving, traffic sign violation, and overspeeding. Conclusion: Based on these results, it show that students' driving readiness is quite good with the attributes of vehicle safety and feasibility. This is shown by the use of helmets and break checks by students with the highest risk on the road. However, the need to be concerned is that the bad riding attitude includes physical health conditions, driving according to traffic safety standards, and paying attention to weather conditions. Improvements are needed especially by drivers to create safe and secure driving conditions.

Perdarahan merupakan salah satu kondisi yang sering dialami oleh pasien yang mengalami kecelakaan. Perdarahan yang tidak ditangani dengan segera akan menjadi keadaan darurat medis karena dapat mengakibatkan syok dan mengancam nyawa manusia. Program pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pelatihan penanganan darurat perdarahan dan pertolongan pertama kecelakaan terhadap pengetahuan remaja di SMPN 2 Jember. Kegiatan dilakukan dengan program pengabdian pada sekolah dengan desain pre-experimental one group pre-test post test dan pelatihan berbasis case simulation method. Sasaran program pengabdian ini adalah 39 remaja di SMPN 2 Jember yang terdiri dari 2 laki-laki dan 37 perempuan. Data pengetahuan remaja terkait penanganan perdarahan menunjukkan nilai mean -pre-test 42,05, nilai mean post-test 70,76, dan hasil meant different bernilai positif 28,7. Kegiatan program pengabdian sekolah berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan pengetahuan remaja terkait penanganan darurat perdarahan dan pertolongan pertama kecelakaan.
