This study uses a structural equation model to examine the effects of noise on self-rated job satisfaction and health in open-plan offices. A total of 334 employees from six open-plan offices in China and Korea completed a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire included questions assessing noise disturbances and speech privacy, as well as job satisfaction and health. The results indicated that noise disturbance affected self-rated health. Contrary to popular expectation, the relationship between noise disturbance and job satisfaction was not significant. Rather, job satisfaction and satisfaction with the environment were negatively correlated with lack of speech privacy. Speech privacy was found to be affected by noise sensitivity, and longer noise exposure led to decreased job satisfaction. There was also evidence that speech privacy was a stronger predictor of satisfaction with environment and job satisfaction for participants with high noise sensitivity.In addition, fit models for employees from China and Korea showed slight differences.Practitioner Summary: This study is motivated by strong evidence that noise is the key source of complaints in open-plan offices. Survey results indicate self-rated job satisfaction of workers in open-plan offices was negatively affected by lack of speech privacy and duration of disturbing noise.

This paper reports an investigation of a new kind of material and its acoustical performance. The main component of this porous absorber is the ground tyre rubber (GTR) with different particle sizes, from the shredding of tyres of heavy vehicles, mixed with different proportion of polyurethane resin. Acoustical properties were assessed according to ISO 10534-2: 1998. The data obtained show porous absorbers having a high sound absorption performance with low thicknesses and compared to some of the current models for the prediction of their absorptive properties. The use of this model constitutes a good tool in order to design a new sound absorber to solve two environmental problems, noise and environmental pollution.

ÖZBu çalışmada, D100 (E5) karayolunun Sakarya güzergâhındaki trafik gürültüsü düzeyleri ölçülmüştür. Bunun için, Esentepe kampüs sapağı ile Sakarya Nehri arasındaki yaklaşık 10 km uzunluğundaki hatta 15 farklı ölçüm noktası belirlenmiştir. Tüm noktalardan 2 aylık süre boyunca, toplam 240 adet gürültü ölçüm alınmıştır. Alınan ölçümler gürültü yönetmelikleri ile birlikte yorumlanmıştır.Anahtar Kelimeler: Sakarya, D100, E5, trafik gürültüsü Assessment of highway D100 (E5) traffic noise in Sakarya ABSTRACTIn this study; traffic noise levels at Sakarya line of highway D100 (E5) were measured. For this purpose, 15 different measuring points on a road approximately 10 km long between Esentepe campus turnout and Sakarya River were determined. During 2 months 240 noise measurements were taken from all the measurement points. All the noise measurement data collected were interpreted together with the noise regulations.
