Robot-Based High-Throughput Screening of Antisolvents for Lead Halide Perovskites

Abstract: A robotic platform is adopted to conduct a comprehensive solvent engineering for making lead halide perovskites in a high-throughput manner. Deeper insights into the working mechanisms and selection criteria of antisolvents are investigated and summarized. In addition, a reliable antisolvent database is established, and verification tests match well with the theory. Furthermore, our work provides significant guidance for designing functional and environment-friendly mixed solvent systems to fabricate high-qual… Show more

“…Environmentally-friendly ink engineering represents an additional aspect that could be exploited as well in high-throughput experimentation setups. 101 On the other hand, autonomous experimentation in self-driven laboratories are envisioned by many as the next-generation, all-inone high-throughput screening platforms in the upcoming decade. 103,104,137,138 These fully integrated (closed-loop) workflows (Fig.…”

“… 100 In an ulterior work, the same group provided an improved understanding and modelling of the solvent-antisolvent crystallization approach typically employed to obtain high quality perovskite layers for photovoltaics. 101 Last year, Li et al performed more than 8000 metal halide perovskite synthesis reactions in an automated high-throughput approach based on inverse temperature crystallization, to then apply ML methods and retrieve predictive models for crystal formation. 102 …”

“…Recently, exciting AI-based robots that run autonomously have been designed to perform this difficult experimental screening task. 244,245 These AI-based robots successfully screen high-performance photocatalysts and antisolvents from several hundred candidates in several days. Also, an AI-based closedloop optimisation of fast-charging protocols for batteries was proposed by Attia et al 246 This methodology autonomously incorporates feedback from past experiments to inform future decisions, which is highly meaningful for design of timeintensive experiments and multi-dimensional design spaces.…”

“…For example, several technologies currently in use are manufactured using toxic solvents. One can think of replacing toxic solvents with an automated screening of green alternatives for a specific application (Gu et al, 2020). This approach, which is now in use for simple tasks, will be developed for more complicated procedures.…”
