Robotics process automation at TECHSERV: An implementation case study

Abstract: This case examines a large technology firm, anonymized as TECHSERV, as they plan, manage, and implement robotics process automation. The organization was seeking ways in which to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity through technology management. Robotics process automation was strategically deployed to automate their business processes. Even though many benefits are associated with robotics process automation, the details of how robotics process automation can be implemented successfully into e… Show more

“…We brought some examples in Table 5 to help understand how can improvements achieved by RPA after its implementation helped in the management of IS/IT infrastructure resources through the automation of business processes, as were the cases of (Wojciechowska-Filipek, 2019; Hartley and Sawaya, 2019;Kokina and Blanchette, 2019;Flechsig et al, 2022;Soeny et al, 2021). Examples of systems integration were also identified, such as (Thainimit et al, 2022;Carden et al, 2019;Simek and Sperka, 2019). In addition, the fungibility of the RPA technology also appeared through the many different domains shown in the publications per subject area (Appendix 3 -Figure A1).…”

“…In the beginning, the co-occurrence table had 107 codes; after the validation, we had 59 codes, which referred to nineteen papers to answer the questions. “…, 2020). As it stands, the empirical research is founded on case studies that focus on specific topics, such as how RPA can be implemented into the existing organizational IT infrastructure (Carden et al., 2019), RPA governance models (Kedziora and Penttinen, 2020) and organizational change management when automation affects employees' job descriptions (Dunlap and Lacity, 2017). As software robots can process large amounts of transaction data with relative ease, the studies show an emphasis on accounting (Cooper et al.…”

“…As a relatively new technology, RPA has been adopted mostly by businesses and other organizations, while academic research on the topic is still underdeveloped, although the number of publications has been steadily increasing in recent years (Syed et al, 2020). As it stands, the empirical research is founded on case studies that focus on specific topics, such as how RPA can be implemented into the existing organizational IT infrastructure (Carden et al, 2019), RPA governance models (Kedziora and Penttinen, 2020) and organizational change management when automation affects employees' job descriptions (Dunlap and Lacity, 2017). As software robots can process large amounts of transaction data with relative ease, the studies show an emphasis on accounting (Cooper et al, 2019) and auditing (Huang and Vasarhelyi, 2019), thus continuing the on-going trend of digitalization of accounting as a field and profession (Knudsen, 2020).…”
