Robust fault diagnosis for an exothermic semi-batch polymerization reactor under open-loop

Abstract: Abstract-Fault detection and fault diagnosis have become increasingly important for improvement of the reliability, safety and efficiency of many technical processes. In this research, a new robust fault detection and isolation (FDI) scheme is developed for open-loop Chylla-Haase polymerization reactor. This reactor has been widely used as an industrial Benchmark. The independent Radial Basis Function (RBF) Neural Network (RBFNN) is employed here for on-line diagnosis of faults on the actuator, sensors, and re… Show more

“…The KALMAN Filter (KF) can be estimated dynamical state from noisy measurements. In this method, dynamic and measurement processes can be approximated by linear Gaussian state space models [1]. This model is a practical model in engineering due to modelling of various noises.…”

“…So far, a variety of fault estimation schemes have been proposed in the existing literature, see e.g. [4], [6], [9], [14], [17] and the references therein. Nowadays, in response to the rapidly growing complexity of industrial systems, the time-varying nature has gradually become an indispensable means of reflecting the fast changes in system dynamics.…”

“…As such, fault estimation is further needed for the purpose of active fault tolerant control. So far, considerable research attention has been devoted to the theoretical research on the fault estimation problem, and a variety of fault estimation approaches have been developed in existing literature, see e.g., Ding, 2008;Ertiame et al, 2015;Fekih and Seelem, 2015;Wei et al, 2013;Bouibed et al, 2014;Jiang et al, 2006;Yan and Edwards, 2007) and the references therein. For example, in (Jiang et al, 2006;Xu et al, 2012;Zhang et al, 2008), the problems of fault estimation have been investigated by applying adaptive fault diagnosis observers that can improve the rapidity of fault estimation.…”
