“…In the RTP fixator group, consolidation of fractures was faster, as demonstrated by radiographical, histological, and immunohistochemical investigations and in part by blood serum markers for bone formation. Similar results with the application of the RTP fixator have earlier been described in experiments with rabbits (Andrianov et al., ) and in clinical cases with dogs (Andrianov et al., ); hence, the RTP fixator with its simple construction and application can be recommended for treatment of diaphyseal fractures of long bones in small animals.…”

“…Open reduction and proper stabilization of fractured bones with using intramedullary fixation pin is easy in application, inexpensive and the basic principles of repair are followed. However, post-operative complications could be an expected outcome of fracture repair, although, surgeons can reduce the incidence of these post-operative complications by selecting an appropriate surgical method (34)(35)(36). The important factors in repairing of fracture include using appropriate surgical method, selection of the suitable diameter/size pins or bone plate and screw, preservation of soft tissues form injury and an adequate post-operative care (35).…”

“…Methods and instrumentation for diaphyseal fracture repair in dogs are diverse, and as long as the chosen method aims to satisfy the principles of fracture repair (1,2), surgeon preference can be accommodated using pins, external skeletal fixation, interlocking nails and plates (3)(4)(5)(6)(7)(8)(9). More recent developments of fixation devices have expanded the options available and include such implants as the locking compression plate (10), clamp rod internal fixator (11), Pengo system plate (12) and rod-through-plate (13). Mennen (14) reported the use of a clamp-on plate in 282 forearm fractures in man, and later for metacarpal fractures (15).…”
