Role of CeO2-ZrO2Support for Structural, Textural and Functional Properties of Ni-based Catalysts Active in Dry Reforming of Methane

Abstract: Positive environmental and technological contexts make dry methane reforming (DMR) an extensively studied reaction. During this process two main greenhouse gases CH4 and CO2 can be simultaneously converted into syngas – a mixture of CO and H2. Supported-nickel is one of the most frequently applied DMR catalysts. Their activity depends mainly on Ni concentration, kind of its precursor and a deposition method. As DMR is a demanding high-temperature reaction, it requires not only an active but first a very stable… Show more

“…Zirconia is more chemically inert compared to traditional supports such as SiO 2 and Al 2 O 3 , 26 and their properties can be enhanced with the inclusion of another oxide, typically ceria. 27 The use of zirconia-ceria mixed oxide as a support is a popular mixture that can be used for many thermochemical reactions including WGS, [28][29][30][31][32][33] dry reforming of methane, [34][35][36][37][38][39] steam reforming of methane, [40][41][42] CO 2 methanation, 43 partial oxidation of methane, 44 and thermochemical splitting of CO 2 . 45 Although additives have been added to the feedstock to improve the conditions for smouldering combustion, 46,47 the use of catalysts to selectively target certain reactions has never been studied before in smouldering combustion.…”

“…Cost-effective and environmentally friendly catalysts are always in demand for synthesis of valuable organic compounds. The main features of a highly efficient catalytic support are: 1) developed surface area for the location of catalytically active centers [1,2], 2) high thermal stability to prevent sintering and abrasion of the catalyst [3,4] 3) the presence of various functional groups responsible for stabilization and activation of the catalytically active phase [5,6].…”
