Role of multidetector CT virtual cystoscopy compared to conventional cystoscopy in the diagnosis of urinary bladder neoplasms

Abstract: Background: The study was done to assess the utility of multidetector CT virtual cystoscopy versus conventional cystoscopy in the diagnosis of urinary bladder tumors. Thirty patients were included, 23 patients with recently diagnosed bladder masses, 7 patients with history of previously resected bladder masses. Conventional cystoscopy was done to all patients with biopsy of suspicious lesions. CT examinations were performed with a 16 and a 320-MDCT scanners. Multiplanar reconstructed (MPR) images were obtained… Show more

“…Nevertheless, UC staging is based on how far cancer has penetrated the tissues of the bladder and whether cancer has extended beyond the bladder. The inability of conventional cystoscopic procedures to provide precise visualization of the bladder mass and the degree of mass extension necessitates further support by additional diagnostic modalities 8 , 9 . However, cystoscopic procedures remain the prevailing standard for mass visualization.…”

“…For instance, video-based navigation technology in knee arthroscopy can be used for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction [194]. Moreover, hysteroscopy, cystoscopy, nephroscopy, and otoscopy systems have also been used in virtual reality simulators [195][196][197][198].…”

“…CT is a recommended radiologic approach to assessing hematuria. To depict even small bladder lesions, optimal imaging conditions, including adequate bladder distention and thin-slice scanning, must be fulfilled [2] .…”
