Role of plasma asymmetric dimethyl-L-arginine levels in detection of pulmonary hypertension in children with CHD

Abstract: Asymmetric dimethyl-L-arginine level has a good diagnostic and prognostic value as a biomarker in children with pulmonary hypertension-CHD and can be used for following up patients with pulmonary hypertension and predicting response to treatment.

“…Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a common complication of congenital heart disease (CHD) [1]. PAH increases the probability for a variety of arrhythmias to occur through changing the homogeneity of ventricular repolarization and atrial conduction by several methods such as the modulation of autonomic activity, delayed cardiac repolarization, and right ventricular myocardial ischemia [2], [3].…”

“…The study stated that the results of ADMA levels were significantly lower in patients receiving sildenafil compared to the control group. 31 Meanwhile, according to research by Mass R (2005), the administration of ACE inhibitors and ARBs can reduce plasma ADMA levels by 12-20%. 32 In this study, the duration of administration of ACE inhibitors and sildenafil was not previously included in the research data on all study subjects in both groups.…”

“…One of the most important types of PH in children is pulmonary arterial hypertension associated with congenital heart disease (PAH-CHD) [ 5 ]. PAH-CHD is usually the result of a large systemic to pulmonary shunt, and often leads to right ventricular failure and early death [ 6 , 7 ].…”
