Role of survivin expression in predicting biochemical recurrence after radical prostatectomy: a multi‐institutional study

Abstract: ObjectiveTo assess the association of survivin expression with clinicopathological features and biochemical recurrence (BCR) after radical prostatectomy (RP) in a large multi-institutional cohort. MethodsSurvivin expression was evaluated by immunohistochemistry on a tissue microarray of RP cores from 3 117 patients. Survivin expression was considered altered when at least 10% of the tumour cells stained positive. The association of altered survivin expression with BCR was evaluated using Cox proportional hazar… Show more

“…Further analysis of fascin levels is needed in order to establish the correlation between elevated fascin serum levels and biopsy proven PCa or in associations with other tissue and serum markers [ 15 , 16 ]. Furthermore, the sensitivity and the specificity of the determination can be evaluated.…”

“…Data showing that the silencing of BIRC5 causes a decrease of cell proliferation both in vitro and in vivo have been also reported 33 , 34 . Moreover, high BIRC5 expression is related to a higher Gleason score 35 as well as with clinic-pathological features of aggressive PCa 36 , 37 .…”
