Role played by the N2(A3Σu+) metastable in stationary N2and N2-O2discharges

Abstract: The role played by the N2(A3Σu+) metastable on the overall kinetics of N2 and N2-O2 stationary discharges is illustrated by using a kinetic model based on the self-consistent solutions to the Boltzmann equation coupled to the rate balance equations for the vibrationally and electronically excited molecules, atoms and charged particles, in which the sustaining electric field is self-consistently determined. It is shown that together with the vibrational distribution of N2(X1Σg+,v) molecules, the metastable stat… Show more

“…3,4 Nitrogen plasmas contain atomic N, as well as electronically 5,6 and vibrationally excited N 2 that carry several electron volts of energy above the ground state. Any or all of these highly reactive species can affect the surface and, thus, the deposition chemistry.…”

“…There are good kinetic models describing the normal nitrogen post-discharges. It is known that in the pink afterglow creation, a significant role is played by more different processes, such as v-v processes in the nitrogen ground state [15], various pooling reactions [1,2,3,4,5,6] and also the contribution of the atomic recombination could not be neglected [17]. The wall processes play the significant role in all mechanisms mentioned above.…”

“…The nitrogen post-discharges have been subjects of many studies for a relatively long time [1,2,3,4,5]. The relaxation processes of atomic and various metastable molecular states created during an active discharge lead to the common thermal equilibrium.…”
