Room temperature synthesis of coinage metal (Ag, Cu) chalcogenides

Abstract: Coinage metal chalcogenides in their nanoregime have been synthesized in aqueous medium at room temperature by mixing the nanoparticles of silver or copper with selenium nanoparticles which are authenticated by UV-vis, XRD and TEM analyses.

“…Bacterial synthesis of SeNPs is widespread and shows a significant variation in the absorption peak due to differences in NPs' sizes. 32 Fesharaki et al 33 and Praharaj et al 34 detected strong, maximum-absorption bands (218 and 248 nm) between 200 nm and 300 nm due to the formation of selenium nanoparticles during selenium ion reduction (Se+4) as reported previously by Shah et al 35 and Simona and Cristian. 36 Microscopic Characterization by TEM.…”

“…The UV-visible spectral characterization of the synthesized SeNPs revealed an absorption band between 200 and 300 nm with a maxima at around 270 nm ( Figure 2B) indicating the formation of selenium nanoparticles. 38,39 Rod-shaped nanoparticles with an average length of 129 nm and average diameter of 10 nm and aspect ratio of 13:1 were observed during the morphological characterization of SeNPs by TEM. Some spherical SeNPs of uniform size distribution with an average diameter of 9 nm were also observed ( Figure 2C).…”
