Root treatment with oxathiapiprolin, benthiavalicarb or their mixture provides prolonged systemic protection against oomycete foliar pathogens

Abstract: Oxathiapiprolin is a fungicide effective against downy mildews of cucumber (Pseudoperonospora cubensis) and basil (Peronospora belbahrii) and late blight of tomato (Phytophthora infestans). To avoid fungicide resistance, it is recommended to apply oxathiapiprolin as a mixture with a partner fungicide that have a different mode of action. Here it is shown that a single application of oxathiapiprolin, benthiavalicarb, or their mixture (3+7, w/w) to the root of nursery plants grown in multi-cell trays provided pr… Show more

ZE, composed of the two systemic fungicides OXPT [ 2 , 3 ] and BENT [ 10 ], was the only commercial oxathiapiprolin mixture that with soil application to potted potato plants could provide effective systemic control of late blight caused by mefenoxam-resistant P . infestans .…”

“…The soil application of mixture of oxathiapiprolin and benthiavalicarb or their single application against P. belbahrii was tested. Application to the root of 1 mg active ingredient per plant in the field experiment provided durable protection of up to 4 weeks against P. belbahrii [52]. The mixture performed better than single applications of those two compounds suggesting a synergistic interaction between them.…”

“…Mefenoxam can be applied at seedling into the soil in field growing basil [38]. In novel trails, the root treatment of mixture of oxathiapiprolin and benthiavalicarb given to the young seedlings, growing in the multi-cell trays in the nursery, may be effective basil downy mildew measure [52]. The only organic fungicide labelled for ground application is based on the extract of Reynoutria sachalinensis [38].…”
