Rotordynamic characteristics of a novel pocket damper seal with self-regulated injection

Abstract: The conventional fully partitioned pocket damper seal (FPDS) was improved by introducing several nozzles on the first seal tooth, which generates a reverse injection fluid suppressing the cavity flow in the circumferential direction. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models of the conventional FPDS and current novel FPDS were established. An infinitesimal theory was employed to identify the rotordynamic coefficient of the FPDS. The influence of nozzle types (negative, straight, positive), inlet/outlet areas, … Show more

“…For this type of motor, the excitation winding is connected in series with the rotor winding [Tuncay et al, 2001;Di Gerlando & Perini, 2005]. This type of motor can work with either direct current (DC) or alternating current (AC) [Lianchao et al, 2021;Maria Verrelli, 2012;Wanfu et al, 2021]. The speed of the universal motor can be very high, and necessarily depends on the load torque, also called disturbance torque, and the supply voltage.…”

“…There are now many novel seal structures in the field of rotating machinery research, such as labyrinth-honeycomb seal, the pocket damper seal, the labyrinth seal with staggered helical teeth (SHT) structure, etc. [9][10][11]. Zhang et al [12] proposed a novel anti-stagnation labyrinth seal structure.…”
