“…Based on the results, this study suggested that motivation based on Self-Determination Theory significantly contributed to PU, thus, supporting H3a. This observation is in line with previous research (Lu et al, 2019 ), including a study related to technology application but not in an educational setting (Tsai et al, 2021 ). Motivational elements from Self-Determination Theory can also influence BI to use Virtual Learning Environment (Hew & Kadir, 2016 ), a variation of technology enhanced learning.…”

“…However, previous studies such as Fathali and Okada ( 2018 ) and Racero et al ( 2020 ) focused exclusively on the psychological needs of autonomy, relatedness, and competence. This is not an unusual scenario, as previous research has focused almost exclusively on basic psychological needs (Hew & Kadir, 2016 ; Lee et al, 2015 ; Lu et al, 2019 ; Tsai et al, 2021 ). As Self-Determination Theory has been expanded from its original form (Deci & Ryan, 1980 ) to include extrinsic motivation and amotivation (Ryan & Deci, 2000 , 2019 ), but the research in Technology Acceptance Model appears to exclude this expansion, a gap in our current knowledge has been created.…”

“…Limitation, author contribution and data availability identification [8][9][10][11][12]. Although even a layman can probably determine what motivation is or what is value, the scientific definition of these phenomena is not easy, and the agreement has not been found on how to view these phenomena yet.…”

“…Gilal et al (2019) indicate that the SDT is a leading theory for understanding human motivation because this theory is effective at discovering and incorporating the effects of the contingency factors that influence a particular human behavior and the associated motivations. For example, some electronic commerce (e-commerce) studies indicate that when the online presence of e-commerce vendors or e-service/mservice providers fulfills the online users' fundamental psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness, those users may consider what they engage with the vendors/service providers to be autonomously motivated (i.e., self-determined), and are thus more like to perform the same behaviors again (e.g., Gao et al, 2018;Tsai et al, 2021). Additionally, a number of studies have proven the effectiveness of adopting the SDT to comprehend online users' motivation for using e-services/mservices by incorporating both controlled-oriented and autonomous-oriented motivations in their theoretical frameworks (e.g., Kumar et al, 2018;Rahi & Ghani, 2019;Zhao et al, 2018).…”
