Safeguarding livelihoods or exacerbating poverty? Artisanal mining and formalization in West Africa

Abstract: In recent years, policy mechanisms to support a formalized artisanal and small‐scale mining (ASM) sector in sub‐Saharan Africa have gained increasing currency.
