Safety Requirements in Collaborative Human–Robot Cyber-Physical System

Abstract: The production industry is moving towards the next generation of assembly, which is conducted based on safe and reliable robots working in the same workplace alongside with humans. Focusing on assembly tasks, this paper presents a review of human-robot collaboration research and its classification works. Aside from defining key terms and relations, the paper also proposes means of describing human-robot collaboration that can be relied on during detailed elaboration of solutions. A human-robot collaborative as… Show more

“…Azfar K. et al discussed the different safety approaches for heavy payload robots, highlighted the technology limits and real-time issues in human robot collaboration CPS. A generalized guideline is proposed with a case of human and robot interaction in industry [64]. Research on the dependability of human-in-the-loop CPS is difficult but an emergent issue.…”

“…The human being becomes a subsystem of CPS, which is an uncontrollable and unpredictable factor to CPS. The researches in [62][63][64][259][260] introduce the recent exploration from molding human being's behavior to management for this problem. What's more, CPS is tightly embedded in the physical world and will be influenced by the environment easily.…”

“…4 introduces the conceptual difference of a cyber-attack mechanism on a CPS, an IT system and an anthropocentric CPS (ACPS). ACPS is an extension of a CPS in the social domain [13,21,28,30,31], in which human is an integrated part of the CPS. The CRCPS structure shown in Fig.…”

“…For today's industrial control systems, new intelligent network architectures [19] are an essential requirement. The present research aims to develop an industrial security framework for safe and secure human-robot collaboration (HRC) in an industrial connected manufacturing environment [20], known as 'Collaborative Robotic Cyber-Physical System' (CRCPS) [21]. There is an increasing interest in industrial customers of 'collaborative robot manufacturers' dealing with automatic and semi-automatic assembly processes in leveraging their assembly processes to a stage to enable seamless human-robot-collaboration.…”

“…A CPS addresses the increasing importance of interaction between interconnected computing systems and the physical world [12]. Applications of CPS in manufacturing include Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS), in process automation and control [13], Collaborative Robotics CPS (CRCPS), for humanrobot collaboration in industrial scenarios [10,9], and anthropocentric approaches (ACPS), where the human component has the role in training the robot for new tasks or for programmable compliance [39].…”
