“…Proline accumulation under NaCl treatment was also indicated for other halophytes, including some euhalophyte/partly recretohalophytes of the Limonium genus (5-to 25-fold) (Al Hassan et al 2017), Atriplex prostrata (up to 10-fold), Frankenia pulverulenta (up to fivefold) (Bueno et al 2020), and succulent halophytes, such as Plantago crassifolia (up to 70-fold) and Inula crithmoides (up to 100-fold) (Pardo-Domenech et al 2016). Under natural saline conditions, proline accumulates in the succulent halophyte/partly recretohalophyte Nitraria retusa (up to 30-fold) and the euhalophyte Salsola tetrandra (1.5-to 2-fold) (Youssef et al 2003).…”

“…For example, the proline content in barley did not change at 205 mM NaCl but increased at 410 mM NaCl (Voetberg and Stewart 1984), and the proline content in Elaeagnus oxycarpa did not change at 100 mM NaCl yet increased at 200-300 mM NaCl (Maimaiti et al 2014). Non-linear correlation of proline content and salinity level was found in salt-tolerant species Thermopsis turcica and Atriplex prostrata, where the proline content did not change at 100 mM NaCl but increased at 200 mM NaCl (Yildiztugay et al 2014;Bueno et al 2020). In two Mediterranean succulent halophytes, namely, Inula crithmoides and Plantago crassifolia, the proline content increased 70-100 times at 450-600 mM NaCl but did not change at lower NaCl levels (Pardo-Domenech et al 2016).…”

“…Soil moisture and salinity are the two most important factors affecting halophyte growth [10][11][12]; therefore, some researchers have focused on the relationship between the growth and population distribution of Suaeda salsa and salt stress and chemical elements in the soil [13][14][15][16][17][18]. Salt-induced vegetation growth and physiology response, such as changes in biomass and chlorophyll content, usually lead to corresponding changes in canopy reflectance spectra.…”
