“…In this case report, we showed that adrenocortical insufficiency was caused by sarcoidosis involving the adrenal glands, as possible causes of Addison's disease other than sarcoidosis (11,12,(14)(15)(16) were excluded; that is, autoimmune adrenalitis, infections with tuberculosis, fungi or HIV and metastasis of carcinoma were ruled out based on the clinical findings and laboratory data. It has been shown that the onset of adrenocortical insufficiency in patients with sarcoidosis is most likely due to an autoimmune endocrine disease, autoimmune polyglandular syndrome type II (Schmidt syndrome) (17,18). However, autoimmune polyglandular syndrome type II was ruled out in this case according to the absence of anti-adrenocortical antibodies and the normal thyroid function.…”

“…Taking into consideration that our patient had autoimmune thyroiditis and vitiligo, we believe that she should be monitored for diabetes mellitus, since by some authors sarcoidosis can be related to various polyglandular autoimmune syndromes (6,14,15).…”

“…In 1974, Bara et al ( 1 1) firstreported a case ofsarcoidosis coexisting with PSS, and Wiesenhutter and Sharma (12) reported three cases with PSS and one case with SLE,with a review of the literature, and Maekawaand Nogami (9) reported one case of PSS and sarcoidosis with esophageal adenocarcinoma. Somecase reports have discussed sarcoidosis coexisting with autoimmune diseases such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, idiopathic thrombocytopenia, and rheumatoid arthritis (3)(4)(5)(6)(7)(8). However, the coexistence of sarcoidosis and connective diseases seems to be rare.…”

“…Not only progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS), but also Hashimoto's thyroiditis, idiopathic thrombocytopenia, rheumatoid arthritis , and other autoimmune disorders are reported to exist with sarcoidosis (3)(4)(5)(6)(7)(8)(9). Here, we describe a patient with interstitial pneumonia associated with PSS.…”
