SARS-CoV-2 receptor ACE2 and molecular pathway to enter target cells during infection

Abstract: Novel Covid-19 (Sars-CoV-2) is a leading acute respiratory tract infection in humans and respiratory disease COVID-19 has gained global resonance, and attempts are being made to classify the molecular characteristics and evolutionary background of this virus. SARS-CoV-2 infects host cells via a variable molecular mechanism. Thus, the rapid and reliable diagnosis of pathogenic viruses plays a crucial role in finding the right treatments, saving lives, and stopping epidemics. that binds to host receptors and fus… Show more

“…Virus structural proteins play an essential role in maintaining and establishing the morphology and immuno-pathogenesis of the virus [17]. For instance, spike protein plays a role in the coronal appearance of the virus and also enables the virus to attach to angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor-expressing cells in various tissues, including the alveolar epithelial cells (type 2Pneumocytes) of the lung [19]. Spike protein also assists viral entrance by membrane fusion after attachment [20].…”

“…COVID-19, which stands for Coronavirus Disease 2019, is caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). So far, COVID-19 has contaminated over 769 million individuals worldwide, with approximately 7 million mortalities ( Najafi et al, 2022 ; World-Health-Organization, 2023 ). The spike (S) protein of the virus has a high affinity to the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor, which is essential for its endocytosis and quick spread in individuals.…”

“…Some preventive measures, such as social distancing and lockdown of cities, have been adopted to control the COVID-19 pandemic [ 3 ]. SARS-CoV-2 has become a global public health hazard despite concerted measures to maintain the virus's high transmissibility in specific places [ 4 , 5 ]. At a minimum, an optimal therapy should speed symptomatic recovery, limit viral transmission in the population through early viral clearance from the infected individuals, and reduce mortality [ 6 ].…”
