Satisfaction and Tourism Expenditure Behaviour

Abstract: In the literature, the quantification of the effect of satisfaction on tourists' expenditure behaviour has not been extensively studied. This research aims to fill in this gap, providing additional information about this crucial relation by analysing it from a microdata perspective. In particular, the Fuzzy Double-Hurdle model, a new model which combines the well-known Double-Hurdle model and the fuzzy set theory, is suggested and presented, both technically and by means of a real case study. The proposed mode… Show more

“…The main results reported by the literature indicate a positive relationship between satisfaction and tourist expenditure (Aguiló Perez & Juaneda Sampol, 2000;Aguiló Pérez & Rossello, 2012;Cárdenas-García et al, 2016;Disegna & Osti, 2016;D'Urso1 et al, 2020;Kozak & Rimmington, 2000). For example, Aguiló Perez and Juaneda Sampol (2000) reveals that unsatisfied tourists spend 31.7% less than satisfied tourists.…”

“…Predictors of sport tourism refer to factors that influence the involvement of tourists in sports tourism (Vegara-Ferri et al, 2020). These factors may revolve around different antecedents that ultimately affect their decision to participate in sports tourism activities, particularly in sports events, either as passive or active tourists (D'Urso et al, 2020). Some of these predictors include the Economic (Buning et al, 2016), the Social (Aguilo et al, 2017;Peric, 2018) and the Environmental (Wicker, 2018).…”

“…Because of this, many researchers opt for dichotomizing the dependent variable into a fuzzy rating scale with fewer categories (Dilmaghani, 2019). This preserves the ordinal nature of the indicator while allowing for an easier interpretation (see D'Urso et al, 2020). This is common in the literature to deal with the usual left-skewness of satisfaction (Albayrak and Caber, 2015).…”
