“…iNaturalist categorizes some Pseudacris regilla (e.g., in the San Francisco Bay Area) as Pseudacris sierra. However, these distinctions are not universally accepted by the herpetology community (Barrow et al, 2014;Crother et al, 2017). Here we consider P. sierra, P. hypochondriaca, and Hyla regilla synonyms of Pseudacris regilla.…”

“…A closely related island species (C. savagei) is limited to Cerralvo Island off the south-eastern coast of Baja California Sur and is recognized in both recent studies (Grismer et al 2002;Holm 2008). While most taxonomists follow Grismer et al (2002) and only recognize two species of Chilomeniscus (Powell et al 2016;Crother 2017), a later unpublished dissertation by Holm (2008) recognizes three additional species that Grismer et al (2002) does not: C. punctatissimus (an island form found exclusively on Espiritu Santo and Partida Islands off of the south-eastern coast of the Baja California peninsula), C. cinctus (found in north-western mainland Mexico and south-western USA), and C. fasciatus (found from northern Baja California south to La Paz). Importantly, multiple populations and species have colour polymorphism, including morphs with the red and black bands typical of coral snake mimics (Davis Rabosky et al 2016b).…”

“…Here, our goal was to quantify differential investment in innate immune functions of four congeneric species of wild tortoises that span a large range of environmental conditions in the United States. We sampled only four out of the five to six species that comprise one distinct clade of Gopherus , excluding both the Sinoloan populations of Sonoran tortoises (putative species Gopherus evgoodei ; Taylor et al., 2016) and the sister group to gopher tortoises (Bolson tortoises, Gopherus flavomarginatus ; Crother, 2017; Thomas & Shaffer, 2010). Therefore, we focused on species differences and but not the effects of relatedness among species in influencing ecoimmunological patterns (Garland Jr et al., 2005).…”
