Screening, Characterization and Physicochemical Optimization of Phosphorus Solubilization Activity of Potential Probiotic Lactobacillus spp.

Abstract: Present study was designed to develop indigenous phytate hydrolyzing probiotic Lactobacilli to increase phosphorous availability in poultry gut with ultimate goal of efficient and enhanced poultry production. A total of 90 Lactobacilli were isolated from indigenous poultry droppings and homemade fermented milk products. Lactobacilli were screened for phytate hydrolyzing ability and enzyme activities were measured calorimetrically by ammonium molybdate assay. Out of 62 isolates showing phytate hydrolysis, 16 we… Show more

“…Present study searched out 84 indigenous probiotic lactobacilli from poultry birds. Different researches have also reported the isolation of lactobacilli from poultry and fermented food products in Pakistan (Asghar et al, 2016;Arif et al, 2018;Saleem et al, 2018). Evaluation of in vitro probiotic potential is based upon tolerance to acidic pH and high bile salts concentration, adherence to epithelial cells, autoaggregation, co-aggregation, antibiotic resistance profile, antimicrobial and antagonistic effect against potentially pathogenic bacteria (Shokryazdan et al, 2017).…”

“…Previously characterized probiotic lactobacilli ( n = 6) of poultry and fermented food origin [13] and toxigenic Aspergillus flavus W-7.1 were procured from the Department of Microbiology, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, as listed in Table 1. Lactobacilli were revived using De Man, Rogosa, and Sharpe (MRS) agar and identified as describe previously [14].…”

“…Although there are few published reports on development of indigenous probiotics from Pakistan (Asghar et al, 2016;Arif et al, 2018) , there still is insufficient data on effect of indigenously characterized probiotics on gut morphology and nutrient absorption capacity of broiler challenged with Salmonella from Pakistan. Therefore, current study was designed to analyse the effect of indigenously characterized probiotic strains on gut morphology and D-xylose absorption capacity in broiler.…”
