Screening the receptorome

Abstract: The term 'receptorome' is now being used to describe receptors, ion channels and transporters in the human genome that are potential drug targets. These proteins comprise a considerable fraction of the human genome, and include the G protein-coupled receptors, which are the targets for many medications. In this review, we summarize recent advances in the field, including the concept that the ultimate goal of drug discovery may not be the development of highly selective single-target drugs, the idea that potent… Show more

“…TRMC is recognised as a powerful technique to analyse both transport and recombination kinetics in hybrid organic-inorganic photovoltaic technologies. [17][18][19] Through this technique, changes in the microwave absorption, ∆P(t), with respect to the steady-state power of the microwave beam, P, are related to the photoconductance of a material, ∆G(t), by        G t K P t P , when the sample is excited with a 5 ns laser pulse.…”

“…[20] The photoconductance is proportional to the density of excited charge-carriers as a function of time, and the corresponding mobility of these carriers. For a given material, one of the figures-of-merit typically extracted from TRMC measurements is the product of the quantum efficiency for free carrier generation per photon absorbed during the pulse, φ, and the sum of the mobilities of these carriers, ∑μ, given by: [17]…”

“…Until advances in gene cloning started to reveal more about the genetics of neurotransmission, the brain had remained a blackbox, in which the modes of action of some pharmacological compounds were largely unknown. The hope now is that brain function and disease will be increasingly understood in detailed molecular terms, as functional genomics and neuroscience research support advances in pathophysiology [4,5]. Furthermore, with clearer understanding of interindividual variation in molecular structures of drug receptors, transporters or metabolizing enzymes, predictive tests will facilitate reduced occurrence of toxicity and nonresponse in the clinic.…”

“…The term receptomics was first coined in 2004 to describe the systematic study of the receptorome, i.e. the collection of receptors and ligand-gated ion channels that serve as sensors and potential drug targets [101,102]. Covering an estimated 8% of the total human genome [101] this protein class is significantly represented.…”
