SeamlessDesign for 3D object creation

Abstract: Multimedia Computing and Systemswith a head-tracking facility. Each user holds a pair of 3D input devices. Each device has a 3D magnetic tracker (Polhemus Fastrak) with two push buttons. These devices operate four 3D cursors. Software components: Virtual objectsSeamlessDesign provides a collaborative workspace for two participants. Three types of virtual objects float in the workspace: 3D tools, shape primitives, and constraining primitives. Users of SeamlessDesign can construct reactive 3D objects by combinin… Show more

“…Such co-located AR systems are beneficial for intensive collaborative work such as 3D modeling (Fig. 2, bottom, [31]) since discussions and exchanging ideas between participants can happen more naturally and smoothly due to non-verbal communication cues present while sharing and viewing virtual content [32]. These developments allowed for the sharing of virtual content between users from different perspectives, but bandwidth requirements were minimal for demonstrating the basic technology.…”

“…In contrast, AR interfaces using head mounted displays (HMDs) allow virtual objects to be shown at arbitrary locations, such as in front of a partner's face [7][11] [12]. Another advantage of HMD-based interfaces is that they have the potential capability of showing correct occlusion phenomena between virtual and real scenes.…”
