Search for Ferromagnetically Trapped Magnetic Monopoles of Cosmic-Ray Origin

Abstract: Same SubgrauP, Ir haS the quantum numberS (sr, rs), P the quantum numbers (-'"-',), and for Ao one has (0,0). It then follows that the (Rom') system in this reaction is uniquely in an "I"=1 state, hence, that the reaction amplitude is purely antisymmetric under E'~~m'. But this means that the differential cross section must be symmetric under interchange of the K' and &' momentuxn vectors. (3) Similarly, consider the reaction y+p-+ PI *+Z++sr+. In the octet model of SU(3) one can define a subgroup" " '4 N. Cab… Show more

“…In Ref. [140] it is pointed out that a binding to nuclei would not affect the results of searches with the extraction technique because, for the sample thicknesses considered in this search, the magnetic field would be strong enough to extract the whole atom or even clusters of atoms from the material surface. However, this claim has been questioned on the basis that monopoles bound to nuclei would remain stuck if there is no available nearby site for the atom to jump to in a solid lattice [258].…”

“…Goto et al (14) reported a flux less than 10 -13/cm2 sec or a mass greater than 10 Gev to escape detection. The high field of a pulsed magnet was used to extract magnetic monopoles should they exist in a magnetic outcrop on the earth's surface and from fragments of a stony iron meteorite.…”
