“…Ex cept for the sam ples of spruce nee dles from Rila and Kopaonik and twig sam ples from Vlasina, the spe cific ac tiv ity of 7 Be at all other lo ca tions was be low min i mum de tect able ac tiv ity. 7 Be con cen tra tions in the veg e ta tion re flected the chang ing at mo spheric con di tions, mainly pre cip i ta tion [26] that, along with Var i ous con cen tra tions of radionuclide ac tiv ity were found in spring wa ter sam ples. Re search re sults show that in sam ples from LOF Vlasina all radionuclides show a value of ac tiv ity con cen tra tion lower than MDA.…”

“…Foliar uptake is the major source of 7 Be in plants. 48 In this study, we measured the giant butterbur leave part samples separately, that is, leaf blade and petiole, because of its shape. The leaf blade tends to spread horizontally relative to the ground surface, while the petiole grows vertically to it, and we assumed that the petiole part receives a smaller portion of deposited 7 Be compared to leaf blades.…”

“…An alternative Be separation scheme frequently used for separation of very small amounts of cosmogenic 10 Be uses oxalic acid and 0.5 M HCl (or alternatively 1 M HNO 3 ) instead of 0.3 M HNO 3 and 0.3 M HF to separate Be from matrix elements. 55 This method was designed for rocks, minerals, and water samples and has the advantage that trivalent cations such as Fe 3+ , Al 3+ , and Ti 3+ are eluted first as metal oxalates while Be is TA B L E 3 Instrumental operating parameters for 9 Be analyses with Q-ICP-MS (iCAP, Thermo Fischer Scientific) 9 Be, 27 Al, 48 Ti, 13 C, ( 103 Rh) retained and separated from Na and K with 0.5 M HCl. However, a non-negligible fraction of the Mg elution peak, and small fractions of the K and Ca peak overlap with the Be peak (later separated by hydroxide precipitation).…”
