Seasonal changes and determination of heavy metal concentrations in Veshaw river of the Indian western Himalaya

Abstract: Trace elements are a major pollutant in the river water and these pollutants are present in all components of the ecological system. Since time immemorial, the River Veshaw has been one of the important sources of water and has shaped the cultural and social values in the Kashmir Valley. “…Food waste and food losses are frequently used interchangeably, but are they the same? When we talk about “food loss,” it takes place in the supply chain after harvesting (postharvesting stages like handling, transport, storage, and distribution), and before reaching the consumer, it is specifically the reduction in the quantity of food (Kour et al 2023 ) while the term “food waste” refers to the loss of items meant for consumption by humans that are later deteriorated, eventually lost, and discharged as landfill (Rather et al 2022a ; Pandey et al 2021 ). It is mainly caused by consumer behavior and retail operations.…”

“…Water is generally polluted due to industrial effluent or a lack of appropriate sanitary facilities. Water pollution is also caused by inconsiderate human behavior, such as dumping trash and other waste into water resources such as a river or a lake (Rather et al 2022a , 2023g ). Traditional water treatment and discharge methods are no longer viable because they rely heavily on a centralized system (Thines et al 2017 ).…”
