Secolignans, Neolignans and Phenylpropanoids from Daphne feddei and Their Biological Activities

Abstract: Two new secolignans and one new neolignan, named feddeiphenols A-C (1-3), together with eight known compounds (4-11), were isolated from the leaves and stems of Daphne feddei. Their structures were established on the base of spectroscopic methods, mainly extensive NMR, UV spectroscopy, and MS spectrometry. Compounds 1-11 were tested for their anti-human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 activity and cytotoxicity. The results revealed that compounds 1, 2, 3, 7, and 9 showed therapeutic index (TI) values above 30, … Show more

“…A 70 % aqueous acetone extract prepared from the flower buds of M. fargesii was partitioned between EtOAc and H 2 O. The EtOAc layer was subjected repeatedly to column chromatography on Si gel, Sephadex LH-20, RP-18 and preparative HPLC to afford compounds 1-6, including three new neolignans named fargesilignan A (1), together with six known neolignans, biondinin A (2) 10 , clinopodphenol A (3) 11 , fargesiiphenol A (4) 12 , morinol G (5) 13 , feddeiphenol A (6) 14 . The structures of compounds 1-6 are shown in Fig.…”

“…acetone extract of D. feddei was suspended in H 2 O and partitioned with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate partition was repeatedly subjected to column chromatography over Si gel and preparative HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography) to afford compounds 1-12, including three new phenylpropanoids, named feddeiketones A-C (1-3), together with nine known phenylpropanoids, p-coumaric acid (4), 13 caffeic acid (5), 14 ferulic acid (6), 15 coniferoside (7), 16 isoconiferin (8), 17 turbinataphenol A (9), 18 nervolan B (10), 19 nervolan C (11) 20 and 1,2-O-dicaffeoylcyclopenta-3-ol (12). 21 The structures of compounds 1-12 are shown in Figure 1.…”

“…[9][10][11] Our previous studies on Daphne feddei collected from Dali Prefecture of Yunnan Province resulted in the isolation of several lignans and phenylpropanoids including two new secolignans and one new neolignan. 12 As a continuation of investigation on chemical constituents of the same Daphne feddei plant, three new phenylpropanoids (1)(2)(3), together with nine known phenylpropanoids (4)(5)(6)(7)(8)(9)(10)(11)(12), were isolated. In addition, the anti-HIV-1 and cytotoxic activities of compounds 1-3 were evaluated.…”

“…The flower buds of D. genkwa (Thymelaeaceae), a well‐known Traditional Chinese Medicine, has been used to treat asthma, edema and ascites, for thousands of years. [ 1‐8 ] Previous phytochemical investgations of D. genkwa resulted in the isolation of a variety of compounds, including diterpenes, [ 9 ] flavonoids, [ 7 ] coumarins [ 6 ] and lignans, [ 3 ] among which daphnane‐type diterpenes were the principal bioactive constituents in D. genkwa . Daphnane‐type diterpenes with a 5/7/6 fused tricyclic ring skeleton, are unique constituents of plants from the families Thymelaeaceae and Euphorbiaceace.…”
