Second harmonic generation in microdomain gratings fabricated in strontium-barium niobate crystals with an atomic force microscope

Abstract: Regular surface domain gratings were created in strontium barium niobate crystals by local poling with an AFM-tip. Piezoresponse force microscopy was utilized to subsequently image the domain patterns and to investigate their temporal and thermal stability. The gratings were examined by means of nonlinear diffraction in reflection geometry using a Ti-sapphire laser (800 nm) as pump source. The well-resolved second harmonic diffraction patterns were recorded for various angles of incidence of the fundamental wa… Show more

“…Методика генерации второй оптической гармоники (ГВГ) уже давно является одним из основных мето-дов исследования свойств сегнетоэлектрических кри-сталлов, тонких пленок и наноструктур [15][16][17][18][19] и, в отличие от рентгеновской дифракции, позволяет ис-следовать динамику сегнетоэлектрического параметра порядка.…”

“…Nonlinear optical properties of such structures must be similar to those of random structures. Most promising material for the formation of artificial random structures is lithium niobate, since artificially formed domains in SBN are shown to be unstable [13].…”

“…On a smaller scale, Borisevich et al 38 pioneered the in situ observations of domain growth using a combination of biased tips in the electron microscopy environment, potentially opening the pathway for atomically resolved studies of domain dynamics. New technical advances also include a pioneering work by Volk et al, 39 reporting a relation between patterning by PFM and non-linear diffraction.…”
