“…The secretory patterns and the hourIy out- After intravenous infusion of histamine, the I F output also rises promptly, but later on the secretory pattern differs from the pattern after histamine subcutaneously, since this maximal output is followed by a more gradual decline to a steady state secretion which is somewhat higher than the spontaneous secretion, and probably represents the maximal rate of production (Weir et al 1967, Lawrie & Anderson 1967, Rsdbro 1967. After tetragastrin, 20 Pgikg subcutaneously, the pattern of IF secretion resembles the pattern after histamine stimulation (Figs.…”

“…Atropine abolishes the increase in acetylcholine-induced output of IF in organ cultures of rabbit gastric mucosa (96). Histamine and pentagastrin administered either intramuscularly or intravenously stimulate IF secretion (89,104), but this increase may be due either to an actual increase of newly synthesized IF or to a "washout" effect of IF already present in parietal cells. Peak IF secretion usually precedes peak acid secretion in tissue (23,94).…”

“…Hoedemaeker et al (1964) have produced evidence from immunological and autoradiographic studies that the site of secretion is the parietal cell, and this view is supported by the close correlation between amounts of acid and intrinsic factor secreted (Ardeman, 1965;Irvine, 1965;R0dbro, et al, 1965). The pattern of acid and that of intrinsic factor secretion differ, however, the difference being most obvious on continued histamine stimulation when the output of acid remains high and that of intrinsic factor falls off rapidly after an initial rise (Irvine, 1966 ;Lawrie and Anderson, 1967). This indicates either that the two secretions come from different cells or that they come from the same cell, in which case the Intrinsic Factor Secretion-Adams et al Due to Op.…”
