Seismic stratigraphy based chronostratigraphy (SSBC) of the Serbian Banat region of the Pannonian Basin

Abstract: Seismic stratigraphy based chronostratigraphic (SSBC) analysis of the Serbian Banat region allows the delineation of the spatial and stratigraphic relationships of the generally regressive and shallowing upward Neogene depositional fill of a tectonically unstable central portion of the Pannonian Basin. When geometrically restored in time and space, the sediment dispersal directions, sediment source directions, types of sedimentation breaks and the tectonic events influencing basin evolution can be delineated. … Show more

“…This hypothesis is strongly supported by the two-steps extension derived from field kinematic studies (Toljić et al, submitted for publication). The exact geometry of the associated normal faults and kinematics is difficult to determine by our study due to the absence of subsurface data, but a series of major N-S oriented depocentres are observed E of the Fruška Gora (e.g., Pigott and Radivojević, 2010).…”

“…A vulkáni képződményekkel (bazalt és piroklasztit) közberétegződően, illetve annak fedőjében az Endrődi Formáció kőzetei azonosíthatók. Fontossága ellenére, a Szegedi-medence és a Makói-árok szerkezeti viszonyainak kialakulásában, illetve diagenezisében e vulkáni esemény hatása napjainkban sem ismert kielégítő szinten, noha a Makói-árok intenzív mélyülésének fő fázisa pannóniai (SZUROMI-KORECZ et al 2004, MAGYAR 2010, PIGOTT & RADIVOJEVIĆ 2010, MATENCO & RADIVOJEVIĆ 2012, BADA et al 2014.…”

“…Sometimes it is possible to find sandstones with high glauconite content, even up to 30%. The clastic sediments often show a transition towards the limestone when the amount of carbonate increase, while the portion of clastic component drops (Pigott and Radivojević, 2010). Fossil fauna in these area were determined in last sixty years (Marković 1954(Marković -1984Buljan 1964Buljan -1983Čanović 1967Bogićević 2000Bogićević -2013Gajić 2000Gajić -2013) and featured with rare samples of shallow-water benthic foraminifera (Heterostegina, Amphistegina, Elphidium, Cibicides etc.…”
