Selection indices for improving the selection efficiency of rice genotypes using grain quality traits

Abstract: Association study and selection of best rice genotypes based on grain quality traits was experimented with 44 rice cultures. The study material comprised of 40 stabilised mutant lines of ADT 37 and ADT (R) 45 and four varieties. The grains with 11-13 per cent of moisture content were subjected for all grain quality estimation/quantification. It is observed that the amylose did not show any correlation with any of the milling properties as well the Alkali Spread Value. Protein has a negative correlation with Ge… Show more

“…Yani et al (2022) tested local corn cultivars of East Nusa Tenggara. Other researchers have studied the index-based genetic gain in several species of plants, such as Silva et al (2020) on sweet corn, Fellahi et al (2020) on wheat, Smiderle et al (2019) and Venmuhil et al (2020) on rice, and de Azeredo et al (2017) on sugarcane.…”

“…Rice is consumed by more than half of the world's population (Zhao et al 2020) and is used as a source of carbohydrates and protein (Wing et al 2018;Ziegler 2018). Nearly 90% of rice is produced and consumed by the Asian population (Venmuhil et al 2020). Fulfillment of the adequacy of carbohydrates will continue to increase as the population increases.…”

“…Each parameter measured can be important information to be used for the selection index using several traits simultaneously (Smiderle et al 2019). The use of selection index in rice has been reported by Venmuhil et al (2020). The selection index on grain quality and selection index on upland rice by Smiderle et al (2019), and combining selection index with genomic estimated breeding values (GEBV) by Chung and Liao (2022).…”
