The reliable evaluation of financial performance of universities plays an important role in sustainable development of universities, and it could be regarded as a multicriteria group decision making problem. Based on this, in this paper, with respect to the attribute evaluation values are expressed by interval 2‐tuple Pythagorean fuzzy linguistic variables, we develop an extended MULTIMOORA method. First, we propose the interval 2‐tuple Pythagorean fuzzy linguistic set based on Pythagorean fuzzy set and interval‐valued 2‐tuple linguistic variables, and further introduce the score and accuracy functions and Hamming distance of it. Then, considering that there are some deficiencies in the traditional MULTIMOORA method, such as exist the case of circular reasoning, and so forth. We improve it by proposing a comprehensive integration approach, which can not only consider both the utility values and sort results, but also reflect the preference attitude of decision makings simultaneously. Based on these research findings, an interval 2‐tuple Pythagorean fuzzy linguistic MULTIMOORA method is presented and the calculation process of this method is described in detail. Finally, we give the numerical example concerning the evaluation of financial management performance in universities to illustrate practicability and reliability of the proposed approach and compare the proposed method with different methods to perform its flexibility.

The sustainable third-party reverse logistics provider (3PRLP) selection, as the core of sustainable supply chain management, has become paramount in research nowadays. In the actual evaluation process, the decision makers may hesitate in a few linguistic terms and have different partiality towards each term, hence the possibility distribution based hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (PDHFLTSs), as expressed by a consecutive or non-consecutive linguistic term set, is suitable for such an evaluation. The purpose of this paper is to solve sustainable 3PRLP selection problems with linguistic information by developing an effective and robust method. We firstly redefine the covariance-based correlation coefficient that can simplify the computation to calculate the consensus degree, and then introduce the hesitant degree in context of possibility distribution information, in order to enrich measures of PDHFLTSs. On this basis, the weights of experts are computed for expression aggregation. Secondly, to overcome attributes’ weights staying constant, the combination of group utility function and variable weight approach is introduced to give the weights of attributes. Most importantly, a decision method, called MULTIMOORA, is optimized by improving the ranking position method, and then, through the combination with PDHFLTS, we proposed a possibility distribution based hesitant fuzzy linguistic MULTIMOORA method with great robustness. At last, the presented method is applied to the field of sustainable third-party reverse logistics provider selection in the e-commerce express industry and the effectiveness is verified by several comparative analyses.

Selection of the most suitable sustainable material to fulfill the requirements of a product in a specific application is a complex task. Material selection problems are basically multi-criteria decision making problems as selection of the optimal material is based on the evaluation of conflicting criteria. Considering the limitations such as ranking reversal problem of the various multi-criteria decision making methods available in the literature, a combination of two recently developed techniques, i.e. the Goal Programming Model for Best Worst Method and Proximity Indexed Value method, is employed in the present study. This hybrid method was used for selection of the best possible material for manufacturing of a complex automobile part for which F1 race car as advanced automotive and its gearbox casing as sensitive part was used. Available alternative materials considered in the present study are alloys of aluminum, magnesium, titanium, and carbon fiber/epoxy laminate. Whereas, criteria affecting gearbox casing’s performance are tensile strength/density, cost, stiffness, damping capacity, thermal conductivity, and sustainable criteria, such as CO2 emission and recycling energy. Goal Programming Model for Best Worst Method is used to determine weights of the criteria and Proximity Indexed Value method is employed for final selection of material. Furthermore, ranking of alternatives was also supported by other multi-criteria decision making methods namely, range of value, weighted product model, simple additive weighting, the technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution, a combined compromise solution, and the multi-attributive border approximation area comparison. Membership degree method was also employed to obtain the final optimal ranking of alternative materials from individual results of applied multi-criteria decision making methods. Besides, sensitivity analysis is done to validate reliability of the results and to determine the most critical evaluation criterion. The result of this study revealed that carbon fiber/epoxy laminate is the best alternative material.
