Selective and Sensitive Colorimetric Recognition of Ba2+ Ion Using Guanine‐Functionalized Silver Nanoparticles

Abstract: Herein, a novel silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) based colorimetric method was explored for selective recognition of Ba2+ ion in water samples using guanine‐Ag NPs as a sensor. The colorimetric recognition strategy was based on the significant change in the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) band of guanine‐Ag NPs with Ba2+ ion. The electron‐rich groups (‐NH2, ‐CO‐NH and ‐NH‐) on the surfaces of guanine‐Ag NPs allow to act as an excellent probe for selective colorimetric recognition of Ba2+ ion. The absorption ratio… Show more

“…[25] The guanine-modified AgNPs can be a probe for sensing Ba 2 + ions. [26] Furthermore, the AgNPs modified with stabilizing agents can selectively detected Mn 2 + . [27] When these AgNPs bounded with Mn 2 + , the particles will be aggregated leading to larger particle size which causing the color change.…”

“…The measurement is based on a change in surface plasmon resonance spectra resulting from an analyte's interaction with the AgNPs. [7,8] AgNPs have been used in the colorimetric determination of metal ions such as Ba(II), [9] Cd(II), [10] Fe(III), [11] Hg(II), [12] and organic compounds like melamine, [13] paraquat, [14] arginine, and spermine. [15] The metal nanoparticles can be prepared by a method that is categorized as a top-down and bottom-up method.…”
