Selective catalytic oxidation of H2S using nonhydrolytic vanadia-titania xerogels

Abstract: A series of vanadia-titania (V-Ti) xerogel catalysts were prepared by nonhydrolytic sol-gel method. These catalysts showed much higher surface area and total pore volumes than the conventional V 2 O 5 -TiO 2 xerogel. Two species of surface vanadium in the xerogel catalysts were identified by Raman measurements: monomeric vanadyl and polymeric vanadates. The selective oxidation of hydrogen sulfide in the presence of excess water and ammonia was studied over these catalysts. Xerogel catalysts from the nonhydroly… Show more

“…92 Mesoporous crystalline titania-vanadia catalysts with narrow pore size distribution and specific surface areas ranging from 64 to 88 m 2 g À1 were prepared in one step by the ether route. [93][94][95] In this case, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images show the presence of spherical particles (B3 mm in diameter) made of an agglomeration of primary nanoparticles of about 20 nm (Fig. 2).…”

“…175 Thus Park et al have applied to this reaction V-Ti catalysts prepared via the ether route, by reaction of VOCl 3 and TiCl 4 with i Pr 2 O under autogenous pressure at 110 1C for 3 days. 95 After vacuum drying, the catalysts were calcined at 500 1C. The V 2 O 5 loading ranged between 6.5 and 18.3 wt%.…”

“…It is clear that reducing reducibility of Vsites could favor a decrease of the rate of consecutive reaction. However, this will depend on the reaction conditions, especially reaction temperature and feed composition [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]38].…”
