Selective determination of Cr(VI) oxyanions using a poly‐3‐methylthiophene‐modified electrode

Abstract: I'oly-3-methylthiophene-modified platinum electrodes are useful for measuring trace levels of chromium( VI) oxyanions. Chromium( 111) species do not interfere. The nature o f the response is elucidated using scanning electron microscopy and electron microprobe analysis.

“…Wallace et al used modified CP electrodes for the determination of Ag + , Hg 2+ and Cr 5+ (O'Riordan and Wallace, 1986;Teasdale et al, 1989). A polypyrrole film electrode doped with 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid or ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) has been employed for the determination of Ag + (Wallace and Lin, 1988 electropolymerization of the different anionic-complexing ligands (e.g.…”

“…The incorporation of functional ligands as a dopant and modifier ion into the CP has been reported to capture various metal ions [7][8][9]. Wallace and co-workers used the modified poly(3-methylthiophene) electrodes for the determination of Ag + , Hg 2+ and Cr 5+ [10]. Modified electrodes based on electropolymerization of the different anionic complexing ligands (e.g.…”

“…Electroanalytical methods have also being investigated, which play a very important role in Cr(VI) redox speciation [24][25][26][27][28][29]. Cr(VI) has been pre-concentrated and determined on mercury [24] and chemically modified solid electrodes by 4-(mercaptoethil)pyridinium [25], adenine complex [27], quaternary ammonium salts [29] and determined by direct reduction on gold, glassy carbon and boron-doped diamond electrodes [28]. In spite of the most of these methods to present good sensitivity and repeatability its robustness in surface waters is limited.…”
