Selectivity of Herbicides Applied Separately or in Combination in the Post Emergence of Rr2 Maize

Abstract: The goal was to evaluate the tolerance of maize hybrids 2B810 PW and 30F35 HR to herbicides applied alone and in combination. Trials were carried out in the field in a randomized block design with four replicates. The treatments were three herbicides, alone or in combination, in addition to the control. Herbicides were: atrazine (2000 g ai ha-1); nicosulfuron (50 g ai ha-1) and glyphosate (1080 g ae ha-1). Crop injury was evaluated at 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after application and also SPAD index, height, ear he… Show more

“…At 21 and 28 DAA no further reductions were observed. These findings are in line with those reported by Chahal and Jhala (2018) and Giovanelli et al (2018), in which the high selectivity is linked to the high expression levels of the pat gene.…”

“…For maize, as alternative herbicides or as a complement to glyphosate, atrazine (mechanism of action of PSII inhibitors) can be highlighted. It can be applied in the pre-or post-emergence of the crop, with an effect on eudicotyledonous weeds in pre-emergence or post-initial (Barnes et al, 2020;Langdon et al, 2021); and it is selective for maize (Giovanelli et al, 2018). Araújo et al (2021) do not observe reductions in yield or 100-grain weight or changes in nutrient contents, even with the use of high rates of glyphosate and glufosinate in RR2/ LL maize.…”

“…As herbicides alternative to glyphosate, used in postemergence of maize, are applied atrazine, nicosulfuron, mesotrione, tembotrione and others, alone or in mixtures (Rodrigues & Almeida, 2018). Studies highlight the efficacy and/or selectivity of these herbicides in maize, however most often in association with glyphosate (Soltani et al, 2010;Giovanelli et al, 2018). There are few recent studies evaluating efficacy and/or selectivity of these herbicides, without association with glyphosate, in maize.…”
