Show more

“…T h e superiority of selective over truncal vagotomy (Griffiths, 1962; Farris and Smith, 1963 Hyde and Hull, 1965; Allgower and Hegglin, 1966) is not clearly established in respect of the avoidance of post-vagotomy diarrhoea, although most authors report a reduction in the severity of this complication. There is better evidence now accumulating that selective vagotomy is superior in acheiving more c:omplete gastric denervation (Hedenstedt and Lundquist, 1966; Amdrup, Clemmesen, and Andreassen, 1967;Bank, Marks, and Louw, 1967;Mason, Giles, Graham, Clark, and Goligher, 1968;Sawyers, Scott, Edwards, Shull, and Law, 1968).…”

“…Systematic macroscopic studies on stomachs with ulcers of various localization by AllgSwer and Hegglin (1966), Hegglin et al (1966), AllgSwer et al (1968), Schmitt-K5ppler et al (1970), Allg5wer (1971, 1972a, b, c) have shown that antrum-pylorushypertrophy, once a rare concomitant symptom, is now a fairly frequent finding. Histological examination of the inspissated pyloric and antral wall reveal induration mainly of the circular musculature together with a submucosal fibrosis .…”
