Affective and behavioral correlates of suicidality among hospitalized preadolescent children

“…Neither Kazdin et al (1983) nor Asarnow et al (1987) were able to demonstrate relations between classifying children as attempters versus ideators versus nonsuicidal and a child report questionnaire measure of self-esteem. However, Marciano and Kazdin (1994) reported that suicidal children scored signilkcantly lower on a child report questionnaire measure of selfesteem than their nonsuicidal counterparts. Moreover, in a discriminant analysis, these investigators found that self-esteem was a better predictor of suicidal behavior than hopelessness or diagnlostic category.…”
