Self-organization of Water Soluble and Amphiphile Crosslinked Carboxymethylpullulan

Abstract: The soluble state of amphiphile and crosslinked derivatives of carboxymethylpullulan was investigated by physicochemical analyses. This soluble state also called infinite sol was obtained from hydrogels after a short-time temperature treatment. The analyses show a large distribution in size for the species in solution (from some nanometers to some micrometers). Furthermore, they also reveal the presence of hydrophobic associations (intra and/or intermolecular) in addition to the chemical links. The nature of t… Show more

“…The hydroxyl groups of the pullulan are activated as alcoholate in the alkaline aqueous solution to allow the nucleophilic substitution of chloride from monochloroacetic acid. Several works has been done to understand the behavior of self assembled or cross-liked carboxymethyl pullulan [33][34][35][36].…”

“…Legros and Souguir et al have already approved several utilities of carboxymethyl pullulan. 33 Carboxymethyl pullulan was formulated by performing a reaction among pullulan, isopropyl alcohol, and sodium chloroacetate. 34 Carboxylate groups are inserted into the main chain of pullulan that leads to a negative charge and carboxymethyl pullulan becomes pH and ionic strength sensitive.…”

“…To improve the chemical modification of pullulan and enhancement of solubility of pullulan, carboxymethylation is the most commonly used reaction. Legros and Souguir et al have already approved several utilities of carboxymethyl pullulan 33 . Carboxymethyl pullulan was formulated by performing a reaction among pullulan, isopropyl alcohol, and sodium chloroacetate 34 .…”

“…Pullulan can be easily transformed into carboxymethylpullulan (CMP) to bring carboxylate groups for further functionalization. [ 20–22 ] Recently, we described the functionalization of CMP with ferulic acid (CMP–FA). [ 15 ] Ferulic acid (FA, 3‐methoxy‐4‐hydroxycinnamic acid) is naturally present in some plants and one of the substituents of arabinoxylans (the main nonstarchy polysaccharides of cereal grains).…”
