Semi‐IPNs Reinforced with Silica Janus Nanoparticles and Their Stress Sensing with Mechanoluminescent Probe

Abstract: A series of nanocomposite elastomers are prepared by dispersing surface‐modified silica Janus nanoparticles into semi‐interpenetrating network (Semi‐IPN) of polyurethane/polyethyl methacrylate. Benefiting from the hierarchically crosslinked structures that consist of physical interlocking mediated by hydrogen‐bond‐rich silica Janus nanoparticles and permanent crosslinking by Semi‐IPN, these elastomers exhibit excellent mechanical properties. Moreover, the Janus nanosheet is found more effective in strengthenin… Show more

“…Taking advantage of the superb absorbing property, HPTS is loaded into the nanopores of HMO capsules. 47,48 By measuring the absorption spectra (Figure S3), the photoacid HPTS loaded in HMO capsules was proved to be the protonated species (absorbs at 400 nm). 39 As shown in Figure 1c, the fabricated humidity sensors exhibit an RH-dependent emission color under 365 nm UV illumination.…”

“…25 Representative studies include the spiropyran OFP activation at the interface of SiO 2 NP fillers in a poly(methyl acrylate) (PMA) matrix 26 or in laminate composites, 27 a coumarin dimer OFP in nanocomposites, 28 or SiO 2 NPs with the dioxetane OFP. 29 Epoxies are prototypical examples of polymers that benefit from compounding. They exhibit stiffness in the GPa range and very low fracture toughness due to their highly cross-linked, brittle nature.…”

“…Polymer mechanochemistry, and in particular the development of optical force probes (OFPs), can aid in this endeavor by visually tracking the material’s optical response to force . Representative studies include the spiropyran OFP activation at the interface of SiO 2 NP fillers in a poly(methyl acrylate) (PMA) matrix or in laminate composites, a coumarin dimer OFP in nanocomposites, or SiO 2 NPs with the dioxetane OFP …”

“…The composite nanoparticle with a non-centrosymmetric structure with two or more chemical partitions is named Janus nanoparticles (JNs). [31] Hence, the JNs can integrate multifunctionality or/and polyreactivity, inspiring their applications in the field of interfacial engineering, [32,33] sensors, [34] drug delivery, [35] etc. In fact, these works mainly focused on the multifunctionality of JNs, the polyreactivity is often overlooked.…”
