Sensitivity Study of Material Input Data on FE Forming Results for Wrinkling and Shearing of Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic Parts

Abstract: This work presents the analysis of the influence of several material input data to the FE results of the forming process of fiber reinforced thermoplastics within a sensitivity study. The *Fabric material model of Abaqus/Explicit is used for the description of the shear, tensile and compression behavior. It is a test-data based model. The bending behavior will be modeled with beam elements. The interaction between input data will be analyzed and its influence onto the FE forming results and FE analysis of mate… Show more

“…The forming simulations are performed with Abaqus/ Explicit. The FE model in this work bases on the unit cell and a checkerboard mesh (Chck) introduced in prior studies [5,6,7]. It consists of membrane elements with *Fabric material card of Abaqus for in-plane properties (tensile, compression, fabric shear) and beam elements to represent the out-of-plane bending behavior.…”

“…In prior studies [4,5] an FE sensitivity study of forming of a Double Dome part also showed the interaction between shear and bending behavior as well as compression and bending behavior for the FE model of bidirectional fabrics. The results were assessed qualitatively.…”

“…Several material tests are necessary to characterize the forming behavior over the melting temperature of the thermoplastic matrices for validation of FE models. They were investigated in prior studies [1][2][3][4][5].…”
