“…This variation might be attributed to the limited number of patients with stage III disease at initial diagnosis and the fact that SLN biopsy was not performed systemically during the entire study period. Although the SLN technique was introduced in Sweden in 1997, implementation has been slow and recommendations regarding when SLN biopsy is indicated were adjusted in 2007 . Proportion of stage III and IV patients decreased over the study period but remained higher than previously reported figures, which can be due to both altered disease characteristics and treatment considerations.…”
