“…Several recent publications have described the use of CEUS to localize SLNs in humans. [45][46][47] The largest study was by Sever et al, 45 who investigated the use of CEUS for preoperative localization of SLNs in 54 patients with breast cancer after periareolar injection of SonoVue (Bracco Diagnostics, Milan, Italy). The sensitivity of SLN detection by CEUS was 89% compared to lymphoscintigraphy and blue dye-guided surgery.…”

“…15 Sonazoid consists of lipid stabilised perfluorobutane microbubbles, and has also been used in Japan to detect the SLNs in breast cancer patients, but is not available in Europe. 16,17 The microbubble agent used in this study was SonoVue (Bracco Imaging), which has been used in a similar fashion to good effect by Sever et al 5 It is licensed for intravenous (not intradermal) use and is most commonly used in cardiac and liver imaging. 18 To visualise the microbubbles, it is essential that ultrasound machine settings are optimised.…”

“…The US contrast agent (SonoVue 0.2-0.5 ml [41], Sonazoid 2 ml [42]) is injected intradermally or subdermally at the upper outer periareolar skin or subareolarly. The breast is massaged for a few seconds.…”
