Sequences of the Nucleocapsid Genes from Two Strains of Avian Infectious Bronchitis Virus

Abstract: SUMMARYcDNAs prepared from viral genomic RNA purified from two strains of infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) (Beaudette and M41) have been cloned into pBR322. Three of these clones, which contain the complete sequences of mRNA A for both strains, except for the leader sequences which are only present on the subgenomic messenger RNAs, have been sequenced using the dideoxy method. The sequences are similar for both strains, each containing a single long open reading frame of 1227 bases which predicts a polypeptid… Show more

“…The location and sequence of this region is similar to the consensus regions found in murine hepatitis virus (MHV) and IBV (Boursnell et al, 1985) as well as the consensus published for porcine transmissible gastroenteritis coronavirus (TGEV) (Kapke & Brian, 1986) and two different strains of BCV (Lapps et al, 1987;Cruci6re & Laporte, 1988).…”

“…Verbeek and P. Tijssen amino acids 190 and 239 from the N terminus. Such clusters are also found with other mammalian and avian coronaviruses (Boursnell et al, 1985;Kapke & Brian, 1986;Lapps et al, 1987;Kamahora et aL, 1989) and possibly represent phosphorylation 'hot spots'.…”

“…More than 10 coronavirus N genes have now been sequenced, including those of HCV 229E, TGEV, PRCV, FIPV, CCV, murine hepatitis virus (MHV), HCV OC43, bovine coronavirus (BCV) and infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) (Schreiber et al, 1989;Kapke & Brian, 1986;Britton et al, 1991 ;Vennema et al, 1991 ;Horsburgh et al, 1992;Parker & Masters, 1990;Kamahora et al, 1989;Lapps et al, 1987;Boursnell et al, 1985). Many of these viruses have been sequenced by more than one group; the references quoted here were those used in the sequence analyses shown in Fig.…”
