Seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 among potential convalescent plasma donors and analysis of their deferral pattern: Experience from tertiary care hospital in western India

Abstract: Background and Objectives: Seroprevalence estimation of COVID-19 is quite necessary for controlling the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Seroprevalence rate in recovered COVID-19 patients help us to identify individual with anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies and its protective nature. The objective of present study was to evaluate seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 among potential convalescent plasma donors and analysis of their deferral reasons. Materials and Methods: A total 400 potential convalescent plas… Show more

“…As a result, blood operators needed to identify and develop approaches to qualify blood donors for CCP donations when no gold standard COVID-19 serological tests existed [ 46 , 47 ]. This included creating deferral policies for CCP donors who were convalescing after SARS-CoV-2 infection [ 65 ]. Blood operators developed early expertise in characterizing SARS-CoV-2 serological assays [ 10 , 51 , 55 ].…”

“…При этом стоит отметить, что для нейтрализации не менее 90% рецептор-связывающих доменов S-белка необходимо присутствие в крови количества антител в среднем 327,2±6,5 BAU/мл. Тем не менее единичные случаи свидетельствуют о том, что наличие высокого уровня антител не всегда определяет нейтрализующую активность и наоборот, что требует мониторинга данных показателей среди доноров плазмы [8].…”

“… Abs-based therapy may be advantageous for B-CD patients. Oren Gordon et al 154 Pharmacokinetics of HT anti-SARS-CoV-2 human CP in HR children (ORA) Prospectively enrollment May 2020 and April 2021 Johns Hopkins Children’s Center 14 HR children Registered prospectively for HT COVID-19 CP (>1:320 anti-spike IgG; Euroimmun) HT COVID-19 CP was administered to 14 HR children (median age, 7.5 years), 9 of whom received it within 5 days (range, 2–7 days) after the beginning of symptoms and 5 of whom received it within 4 days (range, 3–5 days) of SARS-CoV-2 exposure. Regardless of weight or age, CP transfused to HR children seems to be safe and has the observed Abs kinetics.…”
