“…The CMV transmission variation in different age groups could be due to fact that as the women interaction and encounter with the risk factors tend to increase or decrease according to age [72] and social characters. Our finding was in consistent to that reported for other geographical areas [20], [47], [72], [73], [74]. Seroprevalence for CMV between the age of 15 to 19 years was too high (95.6%).…”

“…The antibody prevalence reduced (94.6%) in the age group of 20 -29 years. This finding was not agreed to that reported for USA, in which seroprevalence increased steadily with age [78], but agreed with that reported for Portugal [74]. Studies with similar age groups conducted in other countries, such as USA, Japan, France, England, Poland, and Russia, describe seroprevalences ranging between 51.5% and 78% [40], [79]- [84].…”

“…Based on the literature, CMV has the capacity to maintain a long-standing latency state within the host. It should be emphasized that the prevalence of CMV infection is higher and that its infection rates increase with age, reaching up to 95% in older adults (33)(34)(35).…”

“…[8] Developed countries show lower prevalence of CMV infection in pregnant women, as seen in studies conducted in Portugal (2001Portugal ( -2002 and Germany (1996-2010, 42.3%). [9,10] Globally, prevalence of HSV antibodies is generally lower than CMV prevalence, especially for HSV type 2, <33%, [11,12] whereas for HSV-1, values <65% are described in the general population. [11,13] In this study, serological screening was performed using a commercial kit that detects antibodies to both viruses (HSV-1 and -2), which may explain the higher percentage of seropositivity than in previous reports.…”
